The Detroit Iron Information System is a series of CDs,
that feature original vintage American Automotive Repair Manuals. Vehicles from the early 30s through to the early 80s are included.
Detroit Iron Information Systems took the original factory Automotive Repair Manuals and parts books, which are in poor condition and often hard to find, digitally enhance them and made them available on CDs.
They are compatible with Microsoft computer systems.
These Automotive Repair Manuals are a perfect gift for any classic American car enthusiast.

Detroit Iron Information Systems provides factory service, parts, and electrical manuals on CD for 1973
(1974-1982 available soon) and older GM and 1979 and older Chrysler, Ford, and Jeep cars and trucks. We provide a scanned copy of the original factory manuals in an easy to use CD format. From the CD you can print the section you need, use it and file it for future reference. Detroit Iron is authorized and licensed by Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, and Jeep to reproduce these manuals in CD-Rom format.

As of July 1, 2008 some changes have been made at Detroit Iron.
First - we have completely reworked and updated our software. We have converted from Paperport to PDF files which enabled us to add a search feature and eliminated the installation of an operating system such as Paperport. Simply place the CD in the drive and the program starts. This change also makes us compatible with PC and MAC systems. We have also improved the quality of the images.
Second - we are introducing a Professional Series. The Professional Series will include several years of shop manuals ONLY, no parts books or other material.We will continue to produce our regular Premium line of CDs that include parts books with the shop manuals in most cases. These are exciting changes at Detroit Iron that have taken eight months to complete.
Service Data Section
All of our CDs contain the factory service or shop manual and any applicable supplement. The factory manual is essential.
It includes coverage on all mechanical and electrical systems. This is where you find specifications, wiring diagrams, diagnostic procedures, trobleshooting, installation and removal, and covers all systems.

I have now reviewed two different volumes, a 1961 and a 1972. They are a actually a complete Ford Thunderbird Shop Manual that has been scanned in and put on CD-ROM.
It is indexed by section and page. The CD has its own program to view the manual. One feature I really liked was the ability to zoom in on sections of a page to get a blown up view. This is great for some of the diagrams. There is also a few goodies on each CD.
There is a listing of clubs, a page of news, sports etc. trivia from the same year as the manual covers and a short history page where, on the 1961 manual I found the listing of all the options and the original pricing of those options. Electrical and Vacuum diagrams are included for all the years that Ford had them available. That means that the vacuum diagrams are only on the 1967 and up volumes.
I found this product to be a good value. It contains all the needed information in a format that cannot get dirty in the shop or trashed with grease and dirt. You can print any page or section to take to the workshop, trash that copy and then print new stuff when you work on the next section. Unlike their paper counterparts these manuals won’t come apart at the binding either.
They are PC compatible for windows 95 or later. (I used Virtual PC on my Mac and it worked great.) All years from 1955 through 1972 are available.
